"This is Katherine's mom: I am posting this blog for those of you that are concerned for Katherine and would like to know what is going on with her...... Katherine came home from school Monday and I was in her room talking to her, and she was complaining of having a headache..... I went downstairs to get her some excedrin & while I was in the kitchen, I heard Katherine scream.... i called her name and she didnt answer.... so i went to her room and found her lying on the floor in her bedroom.... i got on the floor and was trying to get her to wake up... she was unresponsive and her eyes were rolled back.... i kept calling her name and i screamed for my husband and he tried to wake her, but she was unresponsive.... my husband put her over his shoulder, carried her to our car... and we left for Gateway Hospital.... on the way, she was vomitting... we got her to Gateway... where Prent (her boyfriend) had already called his mom (which is an ER nurse at Gateway) and they were waiting for her when we arrived... they took her back immediately, did a CT scan... and determined that she had bleeding on her brain. They immediately sent her to Vanderbilt... they were going to lifeflight her, but with the weather, they weren't able too..... when we arrived at Vanderbilt... they were waiting for her as well... they admitted her to PCCU (pediatric critical care unit) at the Vanderbilt Children's Hospital.... we really werent sure Katherine was going to make it, we thought we were going to lose her..... she was still non-responsive... she was put on a breathing machine, this was so her brain could rest and not have any more stress than it was already under.... for about the next 24 hours, we werent sure what was going to happen with Katherine... but, we started calling people and asking them to pray....all we were asking was for everyone to pray.. we thought we were going to lose her.... within the next 24 hours, Katherine started responding to us and making jokes by Tuesday night.... (Tammy, Prents mom, said that for Katherine to be as bad as she was Monday afternoon and to be doing as well as she was by Tuesday night, that it was amazing..)...... I know that God truly touched her... we found out that the bleeding had stopped, and that she didnt have any swelling of the brain. Wednesday, they did a procedure to inject dye to see where the bleeding came from and what they were going to have to do to take care of it.... the doctor did tell us that there was a slim chance she could die during the procedure (which was VERY scary!!!!)... but, she made it thru the procedure... but, there was too much fluid and blood still on the brain to see what they needed to do to take care of this..... so we are still waiting for the fluid to drain off of her brain so they can do the procedure again to see what they are going to have to do to take care of this and prevent it from happening again.... the doctors have been stumped... they have said they dont know what has caused this, but that this is VERY rare in someone Katherine's age.... Katherine has had some of the top doctors in the nation taking care of her. She had to have a shunt (tube) placed in her head to release the fluid and blood from her brain. She will be in critical care until the shunt is taken out of her head. The doctors expect it to take about 1-2 weeks for all of the fluid & blood to drain. But, if it doesnt, they will have to remove the shunt because infection could set in if the shunt is in too long. If infection sets in, it could be life-threatening to Katherine. They will perform the procedure again in 1-2 weeks to see what they are going to have to do to take care of this so it doesnt happen again. But, Katherine is improving everyday.... today, Thursday, she ate some ice, and drank a sprite. We also werent sure she wasnt going to have some brain damage, but, she is very well aware of everyone that has came to see her (when she is awake).... she is able to use her hands, feet and legs.... so it seems that there is no brain damage. She is getting better everyday. Praise the Lord!!!! She is supposed to be in the hospital for quite some time..... BUT, God can heal her quickly and get her out of there..... and i am believing for her to have a speedy recovery. Please just continue to pray for her.... she isnt out of the woods yet. She will be in a regular room before too long. She is going to need yall (all of her friends).... there are some things she's going to have to get thru that are going to be very hard for her.... they had to shave some of her hair.... for a teenage girl, that can be devastating!!!! But, I'll take her hair partly shaved to have her here.... we really werent sure she was going to make it... BUT, God has given us the priviledge to have her with us. You never know when your very life could be taken.... and it all happened so quickly!!! She went to school Monday, and came home, seemed fine... complained of a headache... and then passed out.... completely unresponsive!!! Please, please continue to pray for her...... I will be relaying messages to her from myspace as i receive them and i will print them off and take them to her at the hospital.... she has been able to speak with a few people on the phone when she is awake.... its only for a few seconds, but.... it's so awesome just to hear her be able to speak to someone and know who they are..... so, I will continue to update this blog as often as i can... but my first priority is Katherine (my BEAUTIFUL, ABSOLUTELY AMAZING DAUGHTER)... Thank yall so much for your thoughts, prayers and the love you have shown her during this time... i know katherine will really appreciate it..................... she is in room 5526 B"

please, please, pray for her. she's not doing well at all, and she really needs as many prayers as she can get. please pray for her. she's an amazing girl and she does not deserve to go through all of this. her boyfriend, prent came back to school yesterday and he looked so exhausted and SO sad, and he was like i have been up for four days. he wasn't at school today again, because something went wrong with the surgery and they have to perform it again, and there's a good chance she might not make it. PLEASE, we really need a miracle, take one minute out of your life and pray this girl gets healed.
